Project done for the Skillshare class Demystifying Graphic Design: How Posters Work by Ellen Lupton

Below is the sketches for this poster:
My thought process is as follows:

How could I depict the fight between Erik and T'Challa? The necklace is what stood out to me. The fact that Erik had the gold and T'Challa had to silver. Which lead me to using a gradient to depict the fight between the two.

I also felt the Wakandan sun(set) was important in the movie. For T'Challa it represented home and for Erik it represented a dream and a promise unfufilled.
I also looked up African symbols and the spiral as the sun kept jumping out at me. So this is what I came up with for the poster.

I thought about turning the spiral and necklace upside down, as you can see in my sketch but when I did I couldn't help but to A. Think it was weird looking/didn't fit and B. Suddenly, looked Aztecan to me.

When I started this project, I had a specific idea that I wanted, so I didn't have a whole lot of different ideas. I even tried have the sun/spiral be half gold and half silver without the sunset concept but I didn't like that either.
