Client: Carmichael Lynch

Every June Carmichael Lynch hosts 30 Days of Creativity (30DoC). The main purpose of this event is to bring out creativity within the community at large. With 30DoC being only during June, they wanted something to inspire creativity throughout the year. This is where CreateStuff comes in.

CreateStuff is a place where all kinds of people can come together to share their expressions of creativity and to connect with other innovators and creators. Creativity thrives on connection; the cycle of creativity is: Inspiration, Ideation, Production, and Sharing. This is cyclical; each step thrives on the previous and next. Everyone is creative: mathematicians, physicists, chefs, gardeners, artists, teachers, the list goes on.

CreateStuff wants to show that even if someone isn’t artistically gifted, they have a well of creativity just waiting to be tapped.
Identity system
The identity for CreateStuff needed to be something instantly recognizable with ideation and creativity. Almost right away the idea of implementing the iconic light bulb for ideation came into play. Other concepts explored the different tools people use to express their creativity and different methods of that expression.  The light bulb has long been a symbol for creativty and innovation. The same way a light bulb brightens a room, a novel idea brightens everything it’s connected to.
Website
Createstuff.org

The website for CreateStuff acts as a portal for people who want to share their creativity and connect with other creatives. A user is able to connect to the different social media platforms that CreateStuff interacts with: Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

In addition to the social aspect of CreateStuff, the site also provides incentive and an exploration of creativity at its roots. To strip it down to just the essentials of what creativity is—producing novelty—the site shows that creativity is innate to each of us.
Mobile App
The CreateStuff mobile app would be an extension of the site in that it would act as an additional tool for anyone looking to share their creativity and get inspired. The main function of the app would be to showcase users’ creativity as they submit it. The user could pull in data from various sources: Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Further refining of what the user sees could be accomplished via specifying keywords and hash tags. With the camera integration, the user can capture their creative endeavors in photographs and video. In addition to the camera integration, a drawing and painting function was explored to give users another tool to express themselves.
