Forced Connections
For this project we were required to create logos from two seemingly unrelated words. You chose two words from the word list and created a logo that effectively represents both of those words. The goal was to come up with six logo designs for six different combinations of words, and all logos should effectively use negative space to represent the words.
Concepts
For this project, I had a lot of different ideas and concepts I wanted to try. I filled several pages with scribbles, mind maps, and any ideas that came to mind. When starting, I came up with a few pretty strong ideas and even started building some of them right away on the computer, but I had forgotten a crucial part to the project: it must use negative space. Some of the ideas I had to rethink, and others I had to totally scrap. This was a little frustrating to me, but nothing I couldn’t handle. And handle it I did.
First Build
After revising and rethinking a few of my sketches, I had finally gotten six pretty solid ideas. I was ready to start building them on the computer. This process didn’t take long, but it certainly didn’t produce the results I was wanting. A couple of the designs I was pleased with a stayed relatively the same, but the others I ended up completely changing and redesigning.
Final
After a few more revisions and changes, my logos were finally finished. The next step was to get them printed on black mat board. I’m not the greatest of precision cutting, so my handywork isn’t the cleanest. However I am improving and certainly didn’t produce sloppy work. The end result is six eye catching logos, neatly mounted on a 15x16 piece of black mat board.

I found the whole project to be very pleasing and a lot of fun to do. The process of making logos is enjoyable for me and I can definitely see myself making a career out of it. In my mind it’s like a puzzle trying to come up with an iconic, yet simple logo that effectively represents a business. It’s tricky sometimes, but I love the process and coming up with clever ideas to represent that business. Logo design is a passion of mine and I’m glad I get to share it you.
