Clear Pond Cup Pitch
Task:
Over the design intensive, in teams of 5, we were challenged to design a product that would help gain funding and sponsorships for the company, whilst still delivering the companies mission statement
Partner:
The Red Frogs Australia are an Australian not-for-profit organisation aimed at helping the youth. Red Frogs educate about the risks of the drinking and party culture in Australia encouraging more responsible drinking and partying behaviour. Red Frogs missions statement is aimed at supporting, serving and safeguarding young people.
Final Design:
The final design was a drug and alcohol censoring cup that detected when alcohol and/or elicit party drugs were present to reduce the number of alcohol spiking within today's party culture. The reusable could also be used within schoolies or festivals reducing the number of single-use plastic cups, making it cheaper in the long run and more environmentally friendly.
Design Process
Through intense research, we discovered some scary statistic that really stood out to the group. These stats helped our team create an idea that we believed could help reduce some of these serious issues amongst the youth of today. We did many different mind maps to come up with the final design. Once we had the shape and size of the cup decided their were many different design stages of the cup including picture, colour and text. We finally ended on the colourful beach theme as we believed it could relate to multiple different Red Frog events.
Final Design
Reusable Cup:
The final design is a reusable plastic "tumbler" cup that detects when alcohol is present by changing from a holographic colour too clear. This one, reduces the number of drink spiking incidents as it alerts the user of if the substance is safe and two, allows schoolies to take their cups into beach parties for water cups, as long as the cup still has it holographic colour display that the teen is not smuggling alcohol into the parties. This will reduce Red Frogs amount of single use plastics, making it better for the environment and cheaper over time.
Reusable Straw:
The reusable straw turns red when their is a presence of drugs, warning the user of drink spiking. These straws are able to be used in any cups, bottle of cans, meaning people are able to transport and use it anywhere, in any social setting.
