Naive art can be considered as a contemporary manifestation of the avant-garde, and this explains why the discovery of artists of this style in Venezuela has occurred precisely in the heat of the new movements that, identifying with new art, launched the name in 1947 by Feliciano Carvallo as the first naive artist located in Venezuela. That the naive artist does not represent things because he sees them as they are, but as he thinks he imagines them or as he thinks they are, appealing to imagination or memory, implies that this pictorial style shares with abstract art the fact dispense with any direct reference to reality data.
