I wanted to capture a beautiful memory from March 2019 of visiting my brother who does conservation work in Arizona. We went hiking and camping in the Dragoon Mountains in Cochise County, Arizona, with his trusty trail dog Larrea (named after a desert wildflower). I drew closely from the photograph, but painted everything in a warm evening glow and added some spiky cholla to the foreground. As a highly plugged-in, frequently frazzled graphic artist in New York City, this trip was a good reminder to slow down every now and then to the pace of our natural surroundings.
