Mirroring our own history, the story and evolution of hand painted commercial signs has followed a tumultuous path. This photo essay book, Signs of the Times, examines the public typography of handmade commercial letterforms and how they reflect on the era in which they were created. The book was an exploration in photography, history, essay writing, and book design.
