"Invisible in the City" October 2014

This was a new piece created due to my sense of feeling invisible but realizing that it's common feeling among most people in New York City.
"Tree Sloth" [Selfie Project] 2014
This was a "selfie" project for the open call put out by PictoPlasma Berlin.
We needed to show original characters taking photos of themselves.  After failing to come up with an original character, I used a character from "Tree Sloth" (show below).  I detailed the process on my blog here.

"An Imagination" - January 2014

This was a drawing I made on the cardboard end of my sketchbook to commemorate a finished sketchbook. More importantly, I recorded my process and commented on the coloring aspect (with sped up painting).  You can find that video here.
"Explosion Girl" 2013
Covered here -http://jl-illustration.blogspot.com/2013/05/starting-stopping-starting-again.html

This started as a sketch I made during the Society of Illustrator's Sketch Night.  I loved the model's pose and I-don't-give-a-shit attitude and thought, how can I make her seem even more badass.  Cue the cliche explosion.  The colors are strange and maybe not everyone sees the back as an explosion.  But that just makes it even more exciting as a piece.
"The Expansion of Horizons" 2013

Covered here - http://jl-illustration.blogspot.com/2013/04/moving-forward-now-you-too-can-buy-my.html

With inspiration from a fellow artist (Noah Bradley) I decided to use a cinematic-proportioned canvas and see what I could paint with colors and values rather than lines.
"Create-A-World" 2013

Semi-covered here - http://jl-illustration.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-pause-in-things.html

This was really an attempt to mix the two styles I (at the time) was often working in - black&white pencil, and digital painting.  The magical setting seemed to fit perfectly.
"The Pillow-Wicker Man" 2013

There's a strange origin story for this character design of mine.  It started with my memory of some character from a game (I think it was Final Fantasy something) that had a large hat and cloak that overshadowed its face so only its eyes could be seen.  I also wanted to challenge myself to see if I could paint a textured material, so I used that first image and created this cloth-made character.  From there, I thought of the most interesting position he could be placed in and, this is what it turned into.
