Design Fabrication Challenge

Project Guidelines:
- There are four design fabrication challenges, which take place over four 3 hr workshops.
- Limited to only using predetermined material to complete each challenge. 
- The challenges must be completed in teams of four.
- Visual content has to be original and created by the students.

Documentation Requirements
- Completed individually.
- Each page should be clearly presented containing relevant title/subtitles, your name and page number.
- Documentation of each design fabrication challenge should address the following:
   • Material explorations and process (e.g. techniques, successes, failures etc.)
   • The outcome achieved
   • Instructions on how to produce the outcome (e.g. fabrication procedure, templates,            how long it takes, materials and equipment required, etc.)
   • A 100-150 word reflection (e.g. risks taken, what did and didn’t work, teamwork, etc.)
Challenge 1: Paper
Task:
Teams need to fabricate a paper drinking vessel.

Criteria:
- The paper drinking vessel must hold a minimum of 200ml of liquid.
- The paper drinking vessel must include aesthetic elements to enhance its appeal.
- Only the provided materials may be used.

Material:
- 5 x A3 sheets of 80gsm copy paper
- A limited selection of fastening materials
- All tools required to work with the material
Challenge 2: Fabric
Task:
Teams need to fabricate a garment for a cup or drink bottle.

Criteria:
- The garment must be suitable for a drink bottle (250ml-600ml)
- The garment must serve both a practical and aesthetic function
- Your repurposed cloth and its associated accessories (buttons, zippers, clasps, velcro, etc.) are the only materials to be used

Repurposed cloth material to use during the workshop. Any two of the following garments are permitted: t-shirt, button-up shirt, skirt, dress, trousers, shorts

Material:
- 1x Size 10 Women Pants
- All tools required to work with the material
Challenge 3: Sheet Material
Task:
Teams need to fabricate a protective case for a fragile object.

Criteria:
- The protective case must be designed for the fragile object provided to your team.
- The protective case must include aesthetic elements to enhance its appeal.
- Only the provided materials may be used.

The fragile object will be revealed at the beginning of the workshop; laser cut, card glasses.

Material:
- 1 x A3 sheet of foam core, 500mm x 1000mm of cardboard.
- A limited selection of fastening materials.
- All tools required to work with your materials.
Challenge 4: Foam
Task:
Teams need to fabricate a tactile form representing the following expressive concept: Hyper.

Criteria:
- The tactile form must represent one of expressive concepts: Playful, Hyper, Calm, Bored
- Only the provided materials may be used

Material:
- A 100mm x 100mm x 400mm block of extruded (blue) foam and a 100mm x 100mm x 400mm block of expanded (white) foam
- All tools required to work with the material
