Fronting the Las Vegas Convention Center
Conceived and built in 2003, Nextel Central was a $100MM immersive branding and retail service center, in partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Nextel desired to gain traction in the Las Vegas market, and this investment led to stronger sales and relations with major casinos. Nextel Central served as the front door to millions of convention attendees for major shows at Comdex, CTIA, and the construction, fashion, automotive and small business sectors.
It featured Nextel's first retail and on-site service location, and as the Executive Briefing Room and as the Center of Excellence, showcasing future technologies, partnering with Motorola and the Department of Homeland Security.
This was a major team collaboration, and I was honored to lead it from concept, negotiation, CEO commitment, to opening day. Amazing efforts from the Nextel staff, and specialists at Gensler Architects, Promethean Partners, Chiat Day Advertising, Marnell & Associates, and a pair of excellent full-time project managers kept everything on track.
Nextel Central was awarded 1st Place in Visual Merchandising & Store Design by the ISP in 2005, was featured in Interior Design Magazine, and received commendation as a premier Executive Briefing Center.
More significantly, Nextel exceeded all sales and revenue goals for the Las Vegas market, turning the area into a top performing market in 2005.
