Camp DeSoto Website Redesign

The new home page designed for Camp DeSoto.
Website Redesign for Camp DeSoto

Camp DeSoto is a summer camp for girls in northern Alabama. In 2016, they came to Ronningen Design for a new website. Their old was out-of-date, unresponsive, and difficult to navigate. They wanted their website to sell their camp well, engaging prospects, while also educating new families preparing for their daughter's first summer away.

In order to accomplish those goals, they had a lot of content which needed to be easily accessible and clearly presented. I acted as the art director and lead front end designer for the project.

The home page established a clear, fresh brand statement for the camp, with rich, vibrant photography against a clean, minimal design system. A compact drop-down menu allowed visitors to easily access the entirety of the site.
Primary navigation menu expanded. The menu, like the rest of the site, adapts responsively to changing viewport size.
The new site was built on Ronningen Design's custom CMS, Typewriter, which allows new and existing pages to be built or expanded using predefined layouts. I designed a variety of these layouts, which let us to create pages quickly and allowed the client to update their site easily — all while maintaining their brand image online.
In addition to photography, I also worked closely with an alumna of the camp whose whimsical illustrations were a familiar site around the camp. Her work completed the website and set DeSoto's brand apart in a field of close competitors in northern Alabama.

The full site is available for viewing at campdesoto.com. Thank you for viewing!
