Book Cover Redesign
For this project I redesigned the 1965 cover for the book A Fair Stream of Silver. I redesigned the cover in the style of famous graphic designer Louise Fili, who is know for her hand-lettering and type-driven compositions.
Final redesign mock-up
I first drew inspiration from the original book cover and the content of the book. A Fair Stream of Silver is a collection of love tales from Celtic Lore.
I then did a few thumbnail sketches experimenting with emulating Louise Fili's style and a few sketches trying to incorporate an illustrated stream.
Instead of jumping into computer roughs I took a more "Fili" styled approach and worked on hand lettering using tracing paper. My original idea of illustrating a stream changed to a text-driven cover which alligned more with Louise Fili's style. I also researched Celtic symbols and borders to tie in with the book's theme.
My final sketch became my favorite so I scanned it in and began recreating the letters and borders in illustrator. The lettering is directly inspired by Louise Fili's font "Montecatini."

Below is my final dust jacket cover. My color palette was inspired by the name of the book and consists of blue, white, and silver. I also incorporated the Celtic symbol for water on the back and inner flaps.
