Bear Wallow Logo Project

Bear Wallow Wilderness Area Logo Project

Out of all the wilderness areas I could have chosen for the project, I chose Bear Wallow since it had a lot of things such as black bears and pines that I could easily make a logo out of. The rebirth of Bear Wallow after the Wallow Fire of 2011 is a major selling point for the wilderness area, and it also has great scenery. I never saw a good logo for this wilderness area, however, and therefore decided to make a logo for it.

Critique:

While my drafts had room for improvement, the only form of critique I received was which draft I should use for my final product. The only real changes I made were picking a different typeface and fully spelling out Arizona, and I think those two changes made the entire logo better.

Presentation:

When I was choosing what to include in my logo, my priority was to make a shape out of negative space since many logos nowadays use them well. I also attempted to keep my logo simple, memorable, appropriate, resizable, and timeless. The bear paw represents the wide population of black bears in Bear Wallow, and when I was creating this design, I saw an opportunity to create a shape in negative space. This is what gave me the idea of what to put inside of the paw. The fire icon symbolizes how Bear Wallow was severely affected by the Wallow Fire. The most difficult part of designing this logo was choosing what color I should use for it, as any red or orange color would suffice. In the end, I chose red since it is associated with hotter climates and Bear Wallow is located in Eastern Arizona.
