Arthritis in the Young

As a young sufferer of Arthritis, I have found that there seems to be a stigma that arthritis is in fact a 'old' persons disease, which couldn't be further from the truth. In an attempt to sway peoples opinions, I created a set of three posters that each show a different symptom in the treatment of the type face that read a quote from a younger person that also suffers from this disease.

My first poster shows what is called 'brain fog'. This is where people get easily confused by things, more forgetful, as well as memory becoming very scattered. The disruption and pixelation of the type face shows this well.
Secondly, I show the most well known symptom which is swelling. To create this effect I simply enlarged and puffed up the joints of the letters featured in the type face.
What I like most about this piece is that if you don’t pay complete attention to the details of this poster, you might miss what is actually happening and I find that so so relatable of other people who aren’t as aware.
And lastly, exhaustion is something that most people with any chronic illness suffer from to such a massive extent 24/7, so this was important for me to include. The way that the type face blurs out to the side and appears sort of fuzzy is my way of showing the way letters would look to you if you were to be falling asleep whilst attempting to read them.
I find how dramatic this poster is to be the most appealing. It shouts for your attention of the matter and I think that is very necessary.
