Brief set by the prestigious and highly selective, International Society of Typographic Designers.

The rigorous selection process requires a high level of research and concept development, an exacting eye for typographic detail and the ability to craft beautiful typography.

I was one of seven students in my Honours year that was awarded with membership. My project explored social media by comparing it to the language of Shakespeare. I created a network on Facebook asking participants to translate classic Shakespeare quotes into the language of today and how it would be used on Twitter, bearing in mind the 140 character limit. The objective was to see if we have lost the art of conversation and nuances of our language, as well as depth of feeling with how we communicate today.

I translated the network into an exhibition simply titled "@Shakespeare". I produced 10 posters, where one poster would show the Shakespeare quote creating a feeling a drama and expression, and another poster would show the Twitter translation, expressing a loss of feeling and a dumbing down of conversation. I invited viewers to write on the posters where I posed questions such as "do you understand what this means?"

The exhibition informed the publication which brought the whole process together a long with the conclusion. It really was about the journey.
