New School App Redesign Project
This is the app redesign for The New School (TNS). The design process includes user research, workflow, wireframes, and visual design. The new app aims to give users an easier way to receive notifications from courses, events, and messages. New TNS app also provides an additional messaging feature which students can have better communication with each other.

Target Audiences
- Users studying in the New School
- Users check schedules and class assignments regularly
- Users want a better communication with classmates since it's hard to know everyone at the beginning of the semester
- Users want to keep track of school notification
Current User Flow
- Too many features including school website breakdown, MyNewSchool (student information system) ,and canvas (course system) all together)
- Complicated sign in process and user flow
Current Design
1. Lack of important information for the user
The main page of the app only has a side bar with tons of information and a full page with school logo. The users might want some important information when they first open up the app.
2. Should better define who's the target user
The target user of the app should be those who already get into the NewSchool, however, they still have admission tabs in the app design.
3. The interface is unfriendly to mobile user
In the New School app, it still remains the web version of some pages instead of designing an app friendly version.
New User Flow
- Direct and easy-to-understand user flow
- Users can reach out the most important message(notification for events, courses, and messages) when they first open up the app
- Simple sign in process rather than sign in twice in the New School app
- Only provide key features that users need everyday (for other features, users can go to school website)
Prototype
This prototype is made by sketch which aims to deliver the user experience in a quick and simple way.
