Jury's Comments:

With a gabled timber-frame structure and a large masonry foundation wall, the Renovo Public Library suggests the feeling of the library as a civic “home.” A structure that invariably creates a landscape of books for its inhabitants to occupy, the jury believed this submission represented an outward-facing grand living room for the community that desperately needs one. The submission was also cited for its use of well-done graphics and the simplicity with which its concepts were conveyed.
The Plaza
At the street front, the building frames an open plaza space where people can congregate, eat, and socialize. The exterior material choices are kept regional with stone, heavy timber, and glass. An access road to the boat launch area from the street has been integrated which runs the length of the building.
The "Flex" Auditorium
This space features a large 'rampitheater' that connects to all three levels. Located just inside the entrance, this element invites occupants to move through and explore the library. An acoustic paneled wall reinforces the linearity of the space while the clerestory allows for a gentle ambient light quality.
The Grand Library
This is the heart of the project where residents of Renovo can come and read in peace. The exposed wood framing is highlighted by the clean, white plaster walls. This is a place for young and old alike to come and spread their knowledge. This is a hub for the people of Renovo to embrace each other and feel at home.
The Hearth
The "hearth" (or fireplace) has always been a place for gathering and storytelling. It is here where we can foster intimate relationships between generations. The project features 3 of these "hearths" in an effort to promote interaction between people of all backgrounds. Although reading is a great way to learn, it is amazing how much we can learn from each other.
