XUAN
A form inspired living room sofa made for the purpose of learning the processes and components involved in making a piece of upholstered furniture.
Xuan is the fourth character in the Chinese Thousand Character Classic series. The form was incorporated onto the side view of the sofa from the letter.
Form inspiration
Rel wood is a composite wood developed by Reliance that has an extraordinary threshold for flexibility.
The desired forms were made with plywood that was used as moulds for the rel wood. It was clamped and heat bent while the seating was being upholstered with foam and fabric. The final step before assembly was color.
