MALACCA MAGAZINE
MASTHEAD + COVERS
A cover is the gateway to the soul of a magazine. It bears the name and sells the brand of the publication. It also determines if anyone would pick up that magazine to read. Like a person who has to work on different appeals to leave a good impression, a magazine cover similarly needs to be designed thoughtfully to project that same positivity.

I had to design two masthead logos and apply each separately to two cover options (a total of four covers as deliverables) for my Malacca UNESCO World Heritage publication, using photos I took from my Malacca trip.
I chose to do EXPLORE for my first masthead. After researching & looking through a lot of magazines, I realized that most mastheads tend to be very simple & even if they are fancy, they often change 1 alphabet into a symbol or icon that represents the magazine. For EXPLORE, I changed the 'O' into a sun because when one is exploring, the same sun shines bright no matter which part of the world you are at.
For my second masthead, I chose 23:59. My idea was to just play around with the placement of the numbers instead of having just 23:59 in a normal placement. I joined the numbers together to have some dynamic & also added clock hands since it's time related. Having different timings for each number represented the different timezones all over the world & since time is indefinite, the hands never stop running, meaning that there's endless amount of time for one to travel.

The 2 mastheads I created & adapted onto 4 different covers for my Malacca Magazine, using photos I took myself during the Malacca trip.
