Ando's design VIII
Osaka Prefectural Chikatsu Asuka Museum
In my opinion Tadao Ando is the best Japanese architect in the world. I love his brilliant works and decided to collect his design since 2017.
Osaka Prefectural Chikatsu Asuka Museum is a part of Chikatsu Asuka Fudoki-No-Oka Historical Park which located in the area named Chikatsu Asuka(近つ飛鳥) during Kofun and Asuka periods of Ancient Japan. The Chikatsu Asuka Fudoki-No-Oka Historical Park contains over two hundred burial mounds(一須賀古墳群) including four imperial tombs and those of Shōtoku Taishi and Ono no Imoko. Prince Shōtoku was a semi-legendary regent and a politician of the Asuka period and I love the stories of him very much.
Ando designed this Museum for keeping and showing the cultural relics of Kofun and Asuka periods. He let all these exhibition area underground, on the ground you can only see the stairs and at the tops of them there is a tower named "黄泉の塔" , which means tower of netherworld in Japanese. This architecture used these design to made a connection to these ancient mouns.
