Type Art

Usually, a portrait is a visual description of a person’s face through colors, shapes, shadows and light. The visual exploration of portrait paintings is based on how the light and form could play into a composition. I wandered if it would be possible to achieve a similar visual communication through a simple word, a light typeface and gentle tones, through what is called type art.

I selected the faces of my most admired painters and using their name, I tried to create what we know as their face image. The letter-form I preferred was a sans serif one, because of its modernity and contemporaneity but also for a balance between the elements and the created image.
