Character Turntable

Gayatri was born from my interest towards Indonesian folklore and stories about its ancient kingdoms (Nusantara). I wanted to create a female character that's not only badass, but is able to serve a greater purpose by helping her own kingdom and family. Set in the 13th century, I equip her character design with suitable accessories and props to support the backstory that I created. Although this project is made for my module's assignment, but I enjoyed putting time and effort to create something that I love - a mixture of character concept design and combating stereotypes addressed to women. For me, art should not only be a form of entertainment, but also awakens our critical thinking and our awareness regarding social issues.
