Brave, mysterious, cute… What kind of a mask are you wearing today?

Throughout history, masks have been used to enhance ceremonies, celebrations, treatment of diseases and wars. Even today, we all construct our identities and adjust them according to different occasions.

Our artist group crafted large plywood masks that were hang in Koulupuistikko public park, next to the Design Museum in Helsinki.
“They are charmingly cute!”
“Love!! 😍😍
“So wonderful! Amazing colours.”
“I’d like to see these as a pattern design. 😍

In addition, we created a place, where under the protection of our masks, the viewer could bring up thoughts they normally aren’t able to reveal. We encouraged people to reveal their secrets anonymously by writing them down and leaving them in ‘the Pipeline of Trust’. This was intended to be a liberating experience, like a confession. There, these notes were available for anyone to see.

This installation was probably the most moving work I've done thus far. The anonymous confessions left me speechless. Here are a some of them:
“I have had three abortions.”
“I’d like to leave this place and not tell anyone – and maybe come back one day.”
“Most people are stupid. Really stupid.”
“I have cheated on my partner twice.”
“I lied in court because I was ashamed of the truth.”

I wonder how many people perform roles to please others and bottle up things that stand in the way of their true happiness.
Kaupunki kanava online publication interviewed me regarding our installation. Here is a link to this article (only in Finnish).
Do you want to collaborate? I’m available for a position/project.
