This project is based on a research by The New York Times, that focus on Nike's Vaporfly 4%, that is claimed to be the fastest running shoes there is. The analysis is based on the major marathons around the world: Berlin (2017), Chicago (2017), New York (2017), Tokyo (2018), London (2018), Boston (2018), on the runners that run with different running shoes, including the Vaporfly 4%.
There are four approaches in the analysis:
- Estimated change in race time, compared with a previous result, when switching shoes.
- Average change among shoe-switchers compared with non-switchers.
- Median change in race time when runners switch shoes.
