Tet in Vietnam (Vietnamese Lunar New Year)
Tet is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture. Vietnamese people celebrate the Lunar New year annually, which is based on a lunisolar calender. Vietnamese people have a lots of activity at Tet. In this project, we tried our best to recreate some of them. Hope you like it.
First we had 'Making Banh Chung'. Banh Chung is a traditional Vietnamese rice cake which is made from glutinous rice, mung bean, pork, pepper and other ingredients.
Another rice cake which is similar to Banh Chung is called 'Banh Tet'. This also one of the most favorite traditional food for Vietnamese Tet. Banh Tet is more from the south Vietnam
To celebrate Tet, we redecor our home with lots of flowers. There so flower market. At the North, Sakura flower is more popular, which is Apricot blossom at the South.
When Tet time, there be no shop cause everyone is taking the holiday. There for we go for 'before Tet market' which is also call Tet's market. Fun fact: if you're not getting your reverse food, you won't get anything through the first 3 days of the Lunar year.
Next is one of the most fun activity at Tet (atleast for the kid) which is called 'Li xi' (Lucky money). The adults will give kids lucky money to hope for lucky in the new year. We also give it to the elders to hope them live long with us.
Vietnamese at Tet always want to celebrate their home with flowers and... 'Thu Phap' (Vietnamese calligraphy). The artists who create them is called 'Thay Do'. Unlucky that you can hardly find them these days.
Another activity which make Tet different is 'Xong Dat'. This is when someone being the first who come in your house at the ner year. This is a little bit related to Feng Shui. Basically, the first one come to your house at new year will decided your whole year (so choose carefully who would you invite to be yours).
Vietnamese Tet is almost alike with Christmas. This is a time when every member of the family try to get back to the elder, to their hometown. And in Vietnam, 'Xe do' is the most popular one.
There're a lots of thing to say about Vietnamese Tet. Those things above is just some of them but I hope that would give you some idea about our biggest celebration.
My English is not good so hope that you won't mind :v.
Best of luck and hope you guys like it.
