       Title : The Sandman

Artist : Rendalf Ferlaendr      Technique : Digital Painting

Description :
My artwork is dedicated to the illustration of the image of fear in the immortal novel of Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann's "The Sandman". In my usual manner and method of abstract-sacred improvisation I tried to reproduce the spirit of the story... an expression of overwhelming fear...
“…He is a wicked man, who comes to children when they won’t go to bed, and throws a handful of sand into their eyes, so that they start out bleeding from their heads. He puts their eyes in a bag and carries them to the crescent moon to feed his own children, who sit in the nest up there. They have crooked beaks like owls so that they can pick up the eyes of naughty human children…”
“He looked like Coppelius, whom I saw brandishing red-hot tongs, which he used to take glowing masses out of the thick smoke; which objects he afterwards hammered. I seemed to catch a glimpse of human faces lying around without any eyes - but with deep holes instead.
'Eyes here' eyes!' roared Coppelius tonelessly. Overcome by the wildest terror, I shrieked out and fell from my hiding place upon the floor.
Coppelius seized me and,  baring his teeth, bleated out, 'Ah - little wretch - little wretch!' Then he dragged me up and flung me on the hearth, where the fire began to singe my hair. 'Now we have eyes enough - a pretty pair of child's eyes,' he whispered, and, taking some red-hot grains out of the flames with his bare hands, he was about to sprinkle them in my eyes. My father upon this raised his hands in supplication, crying: Master, master, leave my Nathaniel his eyes!' Whereupon Coppelius answered with a shrill laugh:
'Well, let the lad have his eyes and do his share of the world's crying, but we will examine the mechanism of his hands and feet…”
 (E.T.A. Hoffmann, "The Sandman")

I´m afraid that the voices increase and not to realize the dreams of the kid who                    I once was.

Finish : Permanent, professional grade, non-yellowing satin varnish.

Dimensions : 20 x 20 cm

Description : Fear. Sometimes it’s a very helpful thing that keeps us from harm. But many
times it’s an inner voice and barrier that keeps us stuck. That keeps us from getting what we want and becoming who we honestly deep down want to be. Fear is not real. It is the product of thoughts we create. Danger is real, but fear is a choice. The fears we don't face...become our limits...to be present is to exist in reality, not in mind, which frees you from fear. Fear is temporary.
Don't miss out on something great because you are scared. Everybody fears the fear, right. What matters is what you do with it. How about you making a difference by embracing it, by facing it, by conquering it! I still love the quote: '' My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear ''.
Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the World.“ Jack Layton

Team Project Poem :
Renegade Fear

The ladder rattles against the
boat's board and is lifted by the
seizure of churning sea claws.

Lucid rungs are hurled off
the boat with a briny fury —

Like a renegade time machine,
steps swirl beyond a benign cut
and dry vision as it hurls beyond
the zones immortalized as children.

Sunlight, twilight, midnight, abyss;
enduring fall toward the trenches.

Fears look into the glossy blacks of a
midnight zone and fold into self —

Tumbling until the steps hit solidity

Fine sands, heretofore untouched, dance
with the construct of a toppled collective.

It cowers and jerks in absolution as a
springboard appears in the bottom of the
basin's belly and is catapulted upward.

The warm kiss from our lazy sun softens
jagged contours as the ladder is reattached.
