PROBLEM
The University of Connecticut needed to create a digital hub for their Title IX policy. The student body needed a series of resources that defined, provided information and solutions fo sexual discrimination, violence and harassment. The digital hub was charged with empowering, inspiring and raising awareness among the students.

SOLUTION
With our creative brief in hand we dove into User Research and the development of Personas in order to define the needs of the audience. To that end, we developed six Personas the represented most of the scenarios that the digital hub would be used for. The Personas helped us create Epics and Stories around our User’s needs. This in turn drove the requirements for the digital hub.

Leveraging the technique of Design Studios, we fostered a collaborative environment between within our team and with the client.  In the spirit of Lean methodology, the Design Studios helped us create a better user experience through a series of sprints that helped us flesh out ideas through brainstorming, sketching and wireframes. Rapid prototyping and refinement helped break through many experience barriers. We assigned members of the team to be a certain Persona and encouraged role-playing as we walked through actual tasks.

Employing a mixture of investigative (e.g., surveys and interviews) and generative (e.g., brainstorming) methods and tools to develop an understanding of user needs. This understanding drove the design and development of the digital hub.

The result was a responsive website with easy-to-find tools and resources for the student body of UCONN. Through this and the efforts of an awareness campaign UCONN has fewer incidents of sexual assault and harassment than the national average on college campuses. In a recent poll, 82% of students said that they felt safe on campus.
