I choose to design different desserts using Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to do a wide variety of different sweets and connect them all through similar shapes and shading. I did not use any sharp edges and wanted to go with a softer look to each design. Each design is meant to clearly and easily signify a different dessert.
Cory Kerr explained the importance of looking at a design in real life, and mimicking the patterns of nature. This helped me to add a lot more detail to each of my designs, and made me realize the importance of adding curvature to the popsicle, and making sure that everything that is oval shaped, actually is oval shaped. I tried to think of how light would hit each design and strived to shade each to look more realistic.
Clear, crisp, and simple were three adjectives I tried to make sure each of my designs followed. I did not use any stroke and shaded different shapes using the copy and paste to front feature, as well as proper shading color through the HSL color setting. I followed the rule of proximity and made sure that I have no tangent lines.
Each design is simple and easy to follow. I used colors from the HSL to bring unity to each composition and to do a better job of shading and matching colors. Although simple, my design are creative and my own style. Each design is consistent with the next and it is incredibly easy to see that each design is part of the same icon set. Not only is the color consistent, the spacing and alignment also flows throughout the entirety of my project. I spent a lot of time refining and going back to each design- at times to make more complex and other times to simplify.
