Wentworth Institute of Technology works every year with Calphalon to provide industrial design students with a real-world design experience. Calphalon, as the client, entrusted us with the project brief to re-think one of their kitchen appliances while remaining faithful to their brand's identity.
I was inspired by the simplistic design of an ice cream scoop, a tool that, in its curvature, naturalistically embodies its intended motion so that it becomes an innate response for the user. I wanted the user to grip and use my product in a similar fashion. Thus, the blade had to be curved so that it would imply a rocking/slicing motion so that it wouldn't bruise the herbs.
Final Render. The mincer folds in on itself when it is put away.

Final model made out of ren-shape.
