Norfeu Blanc // Wine Labeling

Produced in Mollet de Peralada (Empordà), Norfeu Blanc is so called after Cap Norfeu, a spit of land jutting about two kms into the Mediterranean. A narrow peninsula that gives shape to the Gulf of Roses, separating the beaches of Cala Montjoi and Cala Joncols.

Cap Norfeu takes its name from Orpheus, a Thracian character from Greek mythology, which according to the legend, played his lyre so well, that people gathered to hear him and comfort their souls. He fell in love with beautiful Eurydice, who later died, and he managed to sleep the terrible Cerberus with his music so he could go down to the underworld to resuscitate her.

On one of his trips, sailing through the Mediterranean, he was surprised by a storm that wrecked his ship, and on a desperate attempt to save himself, he grabbed onto the rocks of a solitary islet. The next day, after the storm, he could see that he was in the middle of the sea, on an isolated island from where he could see the beautiful bay of Roses, with the snowy mountain of Canigò in the background. With his lyre he decided to play songs and melodies in honor of such a lavish sight, and these songs were so beautiful that the nearby mountains came closer to the islet to better hear the music, thus creating Cap de Norfeu.
