Intro to Recording (BVU Fall, 2012)

60s commercial screen shot
This was my first commercial attempt.  Our assignment was to write a 60s commercial with music at the beginning and the end.  I downloaded a midi file of Jimmy Buffet's "Cheeseburger in Paradise" into Pro Tools and chose different instruments from the xPand plug-in.  I wrote the song and spoken part and recorded them in their own track, looping the same song from the beginning to the end of the song.
60s Toe Sock Commercial Screen Shot
This was my second commercial with the same parameters as our first.  This time I downloaded a midi file of "Winter Wonderland" into Pro Tools, again choosing instruments from the xPand plug-in.  I wrote the song and spoken part, recording them into two different tracks and looped the beginning into the end of the commercial.
Puff the Magic Dragon Screen Shot

This is "Puff the Magic Dragon",  I played it on the keyboard, making a midi track and choosing a mini grand piano plug-in.  I put a reverb and CL compression on the mini grand.  I also took a duplicate midi track and assigned it to a flute plug-in.  I recorded the vocal track and added and auto-tune, giving it a Chipmunks-type feel.  I also added an EQ and Trim.  My master fader also had a CL Compressor on it.
For my final project, I used a song from my voice lesson: "Quarter to 9".  I used a zoom recorder to lay the piano track.  I took the music and wrote a tenor sax part from the melody line and recorded that in the studio.  I had a guitar, bass, and a drum track laid.  I sang the vocals and had a friend lay back up vocals.  The back ups were on multiple tracks so I took the best parts and made two back up tracks.  All the vocal parts were melodyned.  Every track has an EQ and a compressor.  The master fader has an L2.
Black Velvet Screen Shot

I downloaded the midi file for "Black Velvet" into Pro Tools and chose my instruments.  I laid a vocal track using melodyne.

I laid chords in Jammer Pro and then downloaded the midi file into Pro Tools and chose the instruments for the tracks given.

I wrote this song during my final semester at Iowa Lakes Community College.  I scanned it into Sibelious and then downloaded it into Pro Tools and chose instruments for the tracks.
