I worked as an art department trainee on ‘Sex Education’, a brand-new drama production for Netflix, starring Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield. I had a wide and varied role with duties encompassing graphic design, technical drawing, location surveying, modelmaking, petty cash buying, set dressing and acting as art department runner.
Specific work examples included prop making for Lily's neon 'octopus fantasy' backdrop, a makeshift bong used at Aimee's house, and set dressing at the headmaster's office, science classroom and English classroom. I worked as a draftsman in the second block, producing drawings for the prom castle in episode 7 through conversations with the art director and construction manager. I also produced white card models to plan out the prom scenes, and created several graphics including paperwork, labels, certificates and posters.
