304L vs 304 Stainless Steel

304 stainless steel is also known as ‘18-8’ stainless steel, because it contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. With regards to 304L stainless steel, simply put, it is a low carbon version of 304 stainless steel. The mechanical properties of 304L stainless steel are a bit less than those of 304 stainless steel, but even then, 304L stainless steel is used widely. The most widely used austenitic stainless steel though, is 304 stainless steel. SA312 TP304 and SA312 TP304L are both commonly used in the food industry, in wine-making, in the brewing of beer, etc.

316 vs 316L Stainless Steel

The 316 stainless steel has increased mechanical properties. 316L stainless steel has a lower maximum carbon limit than 316 stainless steel. The maximum carbon in 316L stainless steel is .03 and that is why it is very good for use in welding. 316 stainless steel has a mid range level of carbon. 316 stainless steel pipe and 316L stainless steel pipe are both austenitic alloys and they contain chromium, nickel and molybdenum, making them highly resistant to corrosion.

316Ti stainless steel is required in Indonesia as in the coming years, it has been forecasted that the demand from infrastructure projects is likely to grow tremendously in Indonesia. The large-scale infrastructure projects that are scheduled to be implemented in Indonesia in the coming years, include the likes of transportation links, energy production, etc. Presently, Indonesia uses a lot of raw steel for its infrastructure projects. But, it is now being realized by Indonesia, that they would be better off using 316Ti stainless steel. Currently, Indonesia is way behind other countries, in its use of stainless steel in the domestic market. But this scenario is soon going to change rapidly, in the coming years.
