ProFile Athletes
ProFile Athletes is a service that gives athletes the opportunity to attend metric test days so they can track their performance in athletic drills over time. With their ProFiles, athletes can review their own personal improvement, vie for the top spot in rankings with other athletes, and promote their skills to coaches, scouts and college recruiters.
ProFile Athletes was starting from the ground up when I began working with them, and were looking for help with UX strategy, UI design, app development and brand development. To validate the strategy, we got informal feedback from youth baseball athletes and their parents about current testing services and their feelings toward ProFile Athletes’ new model. With the positive feedback we got from parents and athletes, I worked closely with the product owner, who was himself a youth baseball coach. We developed a clear competitive strategy, user types and journeys, pricing tiers, and basic requirements for a minimum viable product.
We designed the brand and went through a relatively quick wireframing stage of the application before moving into high-fidelity visual design. We focused on desktop and mobile designs of the application pages we felt would have the most traffic: The marketing website, the athletes’ ProFiles, the Rankings page, a user’s dashboard and test day event pages. We also led the development effort for the application and the content management system the ProFile Athletes team would use during test days.
After launch, ProFile Athletes was popular with middle and high school athletes and their parents. We had a relatively significant number of sign-ups within the first month of launching the application and received positive feedback about the experience and the value of the service.
