The Lawrence Humane Society Hosts First Ever Walk-a-Dog Event with Special Guest Boo the Dog

LAWRENCE, Kan. –– The Lawrence Humane Society is hosting its first ever Walk-a-Dog event on Saturday, Nov. 3 from noon to 4pm at South Park in downtown Lawrence. The event will include food trucks, activities for adults and children and a special guest appearance from celebrity pup Boo the Dog. All event proceeds go to the Lawrence Humane Society.
In 2016, the Humane Society took in nearly 2,000 dogs and set a goal to double that number next year. With help from donors and volunteers, the Humane Society is working toward the funds for a new facility that can better provide for pets and people in the community. Every donation is matched dollar for dollar up to $250,000.
At the event, attendees can pay $5 to walk a dog for the afternoon, adopt a dog in need of a loving home, or enjoy light bites from local food trucks and restaurants, including Jitters, Blissful Bites and McLain’s Market. Boo the Dog, a pomeranian dubbed the World’s Cutest Dog,
will make a special guest appearance to visit some of his favorite furry friends. Boo will be available for photos from 2 to 3pm.
“Support from the Lawrence community and our local business partners is what makes this event possible,” said Meghan Sheibe, Lawrence Humane Society director of development and community engagement. “It is our job to give shelter animals a second chance at a happy, healthy life and we are hopeful that the Walk-a-Dog event will help us do that.”
“There is nothing more rewarding than nurturing our shelter animals back to health and finding them a safe place to grow, play and thrive,” said the Humane Society’s Chief Veterinarian, Luke Pickett. “We are excited to bring animals and animal lovers in our community together at next month’s Walk-a-Dog event.”
The Lawrence Humane Society was founded in 1951 in Lawrence, Kansas. Years later, the organization provides shelter and care to nearly 3,000 animals each year. Their mission is to enhance the human-animal relationship and to give homeless animals the best possible living experience. For more information, visit www.lawrencehumane.org.
