Concept Statement

Through freedom of travel, spacial volumes, and way-finding strategies, the Museum of Cultural Discovery aims to stimulate the psychological tendencies for curiosity to educate and aware users on the development of cultural and racial stereotypes.

Why Cultural and Racial Stereotypes?

This issue has been the root to discrimination and hardship towards marginalized groups throughout history. Human brains categorize people in more or less the same way they categorize inanimate objects. This only shows that the solution to this issue is to train humans through media influence, educational and professional equality, to perceive and register others as who they truly are and not the false narrative that is created of them.

First Floor Plan

This floor holds all the administrative spaces as well as the main exhibit spaces. The challenge behind the space planning was to create an open floor plan for the museum and help users navigate through the 3-Dimensional volumes and change of flooring. This encourages users to wander and to register the information in their own way. This helps guide them in their journey of cultural and racial discovery.

First Floor Reflected Ceiling Plan

Mezzanine Floor Plan

This floor holds resting spaces, a cafe, and museum store. After all the main exhibits on the first floor, users are given the freedom to explore and reflect on what they've learned. There is a Children's Reflection Exhibit where children can reflect on their thoughts, a Social Commentary Exhibit where several figures in media have spoken out or created art on these issues, and a "Be The Change" exhibit that provides users information on action they can take to stop these stereotypes.
