Ann Haaland's profile

Dec 2018: Breakthrough

Using only the roller to apply paint, I worked fast and intuitively, picking out lemony yellows and blues, inspired by primary colors and pastels, these vibrant hues of youth. I became a grandmother in September and each time I spend with my grand daughter, I'm reminded of hope, of vibrance, of the promise of the next generation. These works are about renewal and embracing the abyss with joy: jumping headlong into the unknown. It's funny how life parallels the challenges of art making, how it is invariably both autobiographical and commentary. And sometimes it's just play. Winter is here but I think about warm weather, spring, the earth and energy. It is all positive. As I end the year, there's been a break through and a release. I hope to take these ideas much larger, to work on a series in paint as well as printmaking. Looking forward to 2019.
