Sept 2018 Ink with Acrylic Paint Linear Abstraction

I used acrylic ink in all of these works, applied over the paint layers, with a nib pen, to create precise lines, referencing strata, invoking pattern and rhythm into each piece. I worked on these as a  mindful meditation, finding a means of slowing down the noise and negativity around me. I wanted to contain it, hold it captive, freeze it in place and protect those I love. Again, old motifs sneak in: woods, plants, trees, the square and rectangle appear here. I strive to eliminate those obvious references, moving towards a greater simplicity, towards abstraction and pure surface. As a note, drawing many lines, over and over again is not a relaxing practice for someone such as myself. It tested my patience and made me wonder how I could take this idea really big.  I enjoyed this experiment and the exercise in slowing down. But I prefer to work fast and intuitively.
