LocalSay Android AR app

App Design
Challenge
Enable residents of the City of Westminster to get more easily involved in the planning process.

Thinking
To many residents, the planning process is a mystery, an abstract concept. To bring it directly into contact with their world, we created an augmented reality app, with markers showing the exact location of planning applications. Each marker gives access to details of the application, and allows residents to 'like' or 'dislike' the proposal. They can optionally go on to share their views via Twitter and/or Facebook. Additionally, filters allow users of the app to find the location of key council services.

The LocalSay brand is intended to be scalable, so that the app could potentially be used in many other areas in addition to the City of Westminster.

Outcome
The app proved popular and generated excellent feedback in its beta testing phase. It has now been published to the Google Play store, and is available for all UK residents to install. At present, the data will only appear if they are in Westminster.
