Joshua Hardisty's profile

Halifax “demo” cover

Halifax is a mutant dubstep/bass music project that is heavily informed by 90s post-hardcore like Unwound, Jesus Lizard and June of 44. As a result the visual style is way 90s indie rock: stretched Futura, abstract images, harsh color schemes.

The design of the demo is based on Jawbox’s 1st 7" record (designed by J. Robbins in 1990). The reason for the double treatment of HALIFAX is that the cover is actually designed as a cassette tape cover laying flat. If you imagine it assembled the large HALIFAX would wrap the across folds and the small one would be on the spine.
The background image is an original illustration. its a painting created with a paper plate that is then processed and reprocessed repeatedly in Photoshop.
