Name: Black & White by The Maine Record Design (Inspired by Saul Bass)
Material: Digital (Adobe Suite) & Handmade (sketches by hand + Procreate on iPad)
For my History of Communications Design class, our final project was to take inspiration from a designer we discussed during the semester and design a record for any album of our choice.
I chose this album from one of my favorite bands, The Maine, and drew inspiration from the designer Saul Bass. Sketches and interior can be found below.
I attempted to incorporate the jagged, imbalanced line that Bass has in many of his works into the design.
Using the same idea of straight lines, I also created two lettered compositions of lyrics from the album that would theoretically be small postcards inserted into the record.
I sketched out my initial ideas on paper (we can see that I originally was going to do The Maine's Can't Stop Won't Stop). From there, I did a rough but slightly more rendered sketch on Procreate.
Some projects of Saul Bass, who I was inspired by.
