Pythagoras Early Life & Family: (group work - Manuel)
Pythagoras was born in 570 BCE in a small island just outside of Greece in Samos he was known as a Greek philosopher, mathematician and the founder of the Pythagorean brotherhood while studying poetry. He emigrated in 532BCE to south Italy to escape Samos’s rule and decided to overrule this by creating his own political academy in Crotone Italy. Although today we accredit Pythagoras for his theorem he was not the creator of it, it was found in the year 1900-1600BCE on Babylonian tablets in Circa which indicated some knowledge of the theorem which Pythagoras then went on expanding. Pythagoras later went to Egypt to study with priests in the temple. Mnesarchus his father was a gem merchant and Pythias was his mother, growing up with two or three siblings. He was then later married to Theano however, some may describe his wife as more of a disciple. They had three daughters and 1 son.

- His Belief & Culture/Religion: ( Group work - WILL)

Pythagoreanism originated in the 6th century BC, based on the teachings and beliefs held by Pythagoras and his followers, the Pythagoreans.

Pythagoras Led a cult called the Pythagoreans which was a religion based on the study and worship of numbers. The number 10 was to be seen as the most powerful number. They also focus on Music and Astronomy.

Pythagoras claimed to be associated with the superior god "Apollo" He claimed he believes in reincarnation and that Pythagoras believed he recalls everything in his previous Reincarnation which is why he knew more then everyone and therefore thought he was better.

Some rules that Pythagoras put in place were to not talk about the holy one. Wear white clothing, observe sexual purity, do not touch beans.

He taught the purification of the soul through music and mental activity later know as philosophy.

Pythagoras also believed in the harmony of the cosmos for example 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10 or a perfect triangle. The cosmos refers to the Earth Wind Fire Water which refers to the first 4 numbers 1 (Existence), 2(Creation), 3(Life) and 4(Earthm Air, Fire, Water. hence including these elements in conjunction causes perfect harmony.
