APPD 2240 Residential Design - An ADA Apartment Renovation
A coworker with a growth defect recently purchased a new apartment so that he and his wife may downsize in a space that is ADA complaint to help take some stress out of their lives. We kept the 1 bed, 1 bath footprint but removed the stairs to the rest of the home on the upper level and the spare side entrance at the foot of those steps from the main living area.

The On-suite was outfitted with a spa seat in a walk/roll-in shower with a rain forest shower head with hand-held attachment to allow my client to easily access his new shower. The old vanity was replaced with an ADA compliant roll-up for him and a beautiful dark wood vanity for her. The toilet is also ADA compliant. We went with a wall tile that had ocean-esque colors and a beachy tan paint to make the space feel like a day at a beach spa instead of a bathroom.
An elevation of the shower with the spa seated folded down, tucked out of the way.
The kitchen is a U-shape with plenty of turning space for my client's motorized chair so he can help his wife prepare meals with ease. The cabinets to the right, under the window, were lowered to ADA compliant height so he could stand comfortably or roll up to them to help cook. The faucet is also magnetized so the nozzle can easily be detached for my client to help clean up.
My elevation of the new front entrance with ADA compliant ramp and landing that is large enough to turn his chair
