Logo and Banner Design for a local not for profit Swim Club

This was a project for an open water Swim Club who were looking for a logo as well as a banner design.

In our initial meeting the clients emphasized their strong link to their local area, which is a bit artsy, alternative and quirky, and their pride  on being a swim club that's inclusive and open to all.
Amongst other things they talked a lot about their history, pointing out that their club has been around since the 1920's, and that the first ever winner of the race was a young woman.
They also made it very clear that they didn't want a sleek generic design, but were after something specific to them.
They also wanted their logo to harmonize with their current sponsor (dark blue logo), but not too much, since the sponsors might change.

OK! :)

Considering all I had learned about the client and their vision in our initial meeting, I decided to base their logo on a 1920's swim suit or swimmer.

Here is the mockup  presented on our second meeting:

The client approved the general design, and we agreed to simplify the design and use a blue to complement their sponsor's logo
We went through a number of design stages, refining and implementing their feedback

Here is the final design, as well as a banner design announcing their next event
