Maru stands for homeware simplified and appealing. The Cool Coaster Series is designed with temperature sensitive ink to reveal a refreshing splash while the natural stone absorbs condensation to protect surfaces from iced drinks.
The concept started with shapes of water stains, evolving into protecting from them. The form of the splash was inspired by the circular shape, which developed and moved to the dynamic splash using hand-generated inking, screenprinted onto the water absorbing stone material. In using temperature sensitive ink, the imagery is only revealed when it has been exposed to a temperature of 4°C or lower for a short period of time. As the temperature increases again, it starts to fade.
Taking inspiration from its Japanese origins (with 'maru' meaning circle), the packaging is simple and clean. The transparency of the box acts as a frame through which to focus on the product.
