Upcycled Metal Lamps (UMLa) are a series of lamps made of metal waste: aluminum and steel sheets left after laser cutting and pieces intended for scrap metal. Iron and carbon (used for steel production) as well as aluminum are non-renewable natural deposits. Production process of these components requires a huge amount of energy and water, leading to contamination of water, air and soil.
 Having this in mind, we attempted to extend the life cycle of these materials and reuse it before eventual re-melting or sending it to scrap. Waste sheets were collected from the local company utilizing laser cutting technology for metal processing. Initially they were polished and subsequently, using a metal roller, formed into classic and functional cylindrical shape. This formula facilitated the use of a wide range of metal waste.
 The set comprises a table lamp and sconce. Lamps are perfect for modern interiors, both as a moody, subtle source of light and as main design accent. The foam lampshade reduces the light transmittance, adds optical lightness to the lamp and contrasts with its solid body. A wide range of electrical cables’ colors, permits personalization of the lamp.
 We hope that by designing attractive UMLa lamps we could influence peoples’ perception of renewable materials, and consequently help our planet by promoting the increased usage of metal wastes.
