Nexus

A polyfunctunal building creating new relations with the river banks

The project aims to rethink the public-private relationship in a densely constructed fluvial context, modeling the visual permeability between the road and the water.

The three duplex buildings are student residencies and are divided by two courtyards, that are the identifying elements of the underground community center.  This one connects the residencies. The design of the elevations, characterized by the alternation of glass and corten, reflects the level of permeability between the internal activities and the external context. The three buildings above ground are closed and massive:  only the common areas and the terraces are completely open to the water. Instead, the community center has been designed to valorize the connection with the river: the interior walls create a flexible relationship with the space and a continuous visual connection with the landscape. The purpose is the creation of physical and visual relationships on different levels that could generate various experiences with the surroundings.
