Music and Audio Development
Developing instructional audio for a silent video
Goal: Designing and developing music and audio tracks to add to a silent video.
Audience:  Middle and high school students interested in understanding more about the Pioneers of Shingle Creek, Osceola county.
Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek Final Video: The final version of the project included the narration, music bed and some effects to enhance the narrative process.
Project Breakdown
Planning
The initial stage for the development was to breakdown the video content and planning for the narration and effects in terms of timing, music and effects.
Breaking down the video and planning for the narration and music: This process served to organize the ideas for the project and to establish the recording process timing and effects to be used.  The planning process was driven by the story-boarding and organization of  the content.
Storyboarding
A storyboard was developed to organize the flow of information to be shared in alignment with the images of the video.
Storyboard Example: The use of storyboards support the planning process and development of the narration.
Narration Drafts
Several drafts were developed and shared with the client for alignment on the flow of content and speech.  After several iterations and feedback the narration was improved and final narration, music and effect were incorporated.
The initial draft served to provide the client an overview on how the project was going to look and feel with some incorporation of narration and music.  This draft is just an example used to gather feedback from the client and to align their expectations regarding the content and instructional music and effects.
A second draft was developed to incorporate the comments from the client.
The main changes on the audio were focused on using the automation tools from GarageBand to level the volume of the tracks and reduce background noises and clipping.
Final Production
The narration was performed following an informative style with variations on the voice inflections and volume. The narration was supported with a variety of background music with a variety of instruments such as banjos, harmonicas, and flutes.  Effects were developed to help the engagement and fun in the project.  Most of the sounds for the effect were developed with household instruments or voice to engage the audience with the narration.
