Medium: Accordion style book made of paper
Size: 17.7*25*93 cm
Through this work, I want to use a progressive way of narration and imagery to demonstrate history as the accumulation of days. The first page shows people who are visiting this temple. The layers are arranged chronologically allowing the viewers to experience these past moments as vignettes to journey through. The second to last layer is a picture of my grandfather and his relatives which was shot when he was a little child.
I used this special kind of pop-up book to express the feeling of different generations. Because some parts are movable, I made a video to show the book. The background sound of the video is some overlapped audio of my grandfather telling the story of what happened to him at different times.
