Textile printing and Tie & Dye

DECONSTRUCTED SCREEN PRINTING AND TIE & DYE
In this two week workshop I researched about different techniques of textile printing and practically experimented three; Screen Printing, Lino Printing, Stencil printing on fabric. In the second week I explored different types of tie & dye and eco-printing. Here I went on exploring different tying methods and understanding their outcomes.
My given theme was Earth around which my final outcome would revolve.

Tie & Dye

The fabric is tied in different patterns using different techniques and dipped into the dye.
I have used shibori, bandhani, lehriya, arashi, clamp and fan-fold techniques here.

Eco-Dying
This is eco-dying technique wherein natural materials like fruits, vegetables, flowers and rusted objects are tied with the fabric and the dipped in vinegar. After steaming and exposing the sample in the air, it is opened and the fabric takes the color of that object. This was the most fun method of tie & dye since you have absolutely no control over the intensity and color of the natural or rusted dye. All you can play around is with its placement and method of tying.

DHARA

(Dhara - the one who holds, the one who sustains and the one with constant flow.)

Earth is the result of explosion and the creator of creatures. The soil nourishes. Nature teaches the survival of the fittest. This planet has seen the life bubble out from a single cell to the existence of all the beings and creatures. It portrays the law of ever changing and ever evolving. It shows how beauty lies within everything and how the reason of life can become the cause of death too.

I’ve tried to cover the three important elements that I associate with the Earth through my three art pieces:
1.Earth as the bearer, witness and destroyer of life.

2.An example of how beauty doesn’t depend on the change but lies within the change.

3.How the nature of multiple faces or facades exists both in formless organic organisms and the skeleton beings.
